Also, as you pointed out, the lofty BABIP makes me wonder what would have happened over 400-plus at-bats at that level.

The talent is there at the plate, but I'm wondering if we're going to see a Matt LaPorta type of debut when the Pirates do give Alvarez the call. With all the hype surrounding him, that could be a very bad thing for his psyche and the psyche of Pirates fans.Charlie Saponarahttp://fantasybaseball365.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7041126702017676513.post-9905973667907380432010-05-25T09:22:02.267-05:002010-05-25T09:22:02.267-05:00You've actually got last years stats backwards...You've actually got last years stats backwards, when he came up at Single-A (which is lynchburg), he struggled, but then turned it on later in the year at Altoona - which is the AA affiliate....He had an incredibly high BABIP vs LHP in altoona (.477), so it was bound to come down. All I'm saying is that last year he got better as the season went on, and not worse as you stated earlier.. Gives a little more glimmer of hope that he's gonna turned it around.Ryannoreply@blogger.com
